Rdestowa Residential Complex is a large-scale urban district designed as a cohesive, self-sufficient neighborhood, where modern architecture and existing greenery shape a new model of everyday living. Organized around a central pedestrian axis and a network of green links, the project weaves together public spaces, raised community courtyards, and quiet residential quarters — creating an environment that balances urban density with intimacy, nature, and social life.

A Vision for a Self-Sufficient Urban Environment

The Rdestowa Residential Complex is designed on a scale comparable to a small city district, integrating urban planning principles that prioritize spatial hierarchy, green infrastructure, and human-centered design. The key objective of the project is to create a balanced living environment where public, semi-public, and private spaces transition naturally, ensuring a cohesive and functional community.

At the heart of the development lies a central urban axis—a green, pedestrian-friendly street—which serves as the backbone of the district. This axis culminates in a public square adjacent to a park and a kindergarten, fostering a vibrant social hub. The architectural concept emphasizes the integration of existing greenery into the fabric of the residential quarters, with raised community courtyards on the +1 level providing intimate neighborhood spaces.

A defining element of the project is the Green Link, a network of tree-lined pedestrian pathways that seamlessly connect all areas of the development. This approach not only enhances urban permeability but also ensures that all walkways are immersed in greenery, promoting well-being and environmental sustainability.

Urban and Architectural Strategy

The development consists of eleven residential buildings, predominantly arranged as enclosed urban quarters. Each quarter is positioned atop an independent underground parking structure that does not extend beyond its footprint. In cases where additional parking capacity was required, ground-level interior courtyards were utilized to accommodate self-contained parking facilities.

To optimize sunlight exposure, the buildings follow a stepped design, decreasing in height towards the south. Strategic view corridors and ventilation openings have been integrated to enhance airflow and provide scenic perspectives. The interiors of the quarters are designed as tranquil, resident-only spaces featuring landscaped gardens, recreational zones, and playgrounds.

A clear distinction is drawn between public and private domains, with the outer edges of the development embracing a dynamic urban streetscape with retail and services, while the interiors prioritize neighborly, community-oriented spaces. At the core of the development lies a public plaza, directly adjacent to the kindergarten and the park, reinforcing the social character of the neighborhood.

Architectural and Material Approach

The architectural identity of the Rdestowa Residential Complex is rooted in modern aesthetics while drawing inspiration from the Gdynia modernist movement and the historical character of the Dąbrowa district. The facades are visually articulated through a combination of materials, creating a contemporary yet contextually respectful expression.

Key material choices include:

  • White plaster as the primary facade finish, lending a clean, timeless quality.
  • Corrugated white metal cladding, referencing historical industrial architecture in the area.
  • Profiled glass (profilit) in stairwells, introducing an interplay of transparency and light.
  • Wood composite paneling at building entrances and view corridors, adding warmth and contrast.

In alignment with the project’s commitment to sustainability, soft landscaping and natural surface materials dominate the open spaces. The diverse height variations in vegetation contribute to natural zoning, subtly defining different functional areas without the need for intrusive barriers.

Creating a New Standard for Residential Living

Rdestowa Residential Complex represents a forward-thinking approach to urban development, where nature, architecture, and community coexist harmoniously. By prioritizing pedestrian-friendly environments, integrating high-quality green spaces, and implementing a refined architectural language, the project establishes a new benchmark for sustainable and human-centric living in contemporary urban districts.
